1. Introduction

The Institute of Policy Analysis and Research( IPAR-Rwanda) is calling for Papers to be presented during its 7th Annual Research Conference whose main theme is "Policies and Programmes to Support Poverty Reduction" which will take place on February 22, 2018 at the Marriot Hotel, Kigali-Rwanda.

2. Background

The world wants to ‘Get to Zero’ extreme poverty and reduced poverty, as stated in the Sustainable Development Goals. This is one of the challenges that Rwanda is facing. The National strategies of Rwanda target an extreme poverty-free country in the medium run. Eradication of extreme poverty and reduction of overall poverty will require strong evidence to inform policy makers on whether existing policies and programmes work or not, which will be a continuous cycle of improvement. New findings from a recent research project on poverty dynamics in Rwanda, which will be presented during the IPAR-Rwanda 7th Annual Conference, will contribute to informing policy makers. This call for papers aims at enlarging the set of evidence on poverty in Rwanda and in other developing countries.

This year, IPAR-Rwanda’s annual conference, entitled “Policies and Programmes to Support Poverty Reduction” will cover research carried out on poverty and poverty dynamics, and the associated initiatives and policies to “Get to Zero” extreme poverty. The overall aim of the conference is to provide policy makers with the latest evidence on policies and programmes, which can assist in achieving positive poverty reduction outcomes and sustained escaped out of poverty. In addition, evidence from both Rwanda and other developing countries will be show cased, so as to inform Rwandan decision makers. The key issues to be discussed will revolve around economic growth rate and patterns as well as policies; social protection; human development; transformational social, economic and environmental change; governance and institutions.

We therefore invite researchers, scholars and others to submit abstracts for the conference. The closing date for abstracts is January 26th 2018. Contributions can be based on research, policy or practice that capture poverty, poverty dynamics, social protection and other related areas. Geographical coverage of the analysis includes Rwanda and other developing countries.
