IPAR’s 6th Annual Research Conference Announcement and Call for Papers

“Secure Biodiversity and Ensure Management of Natural Resources toward Sustainable Development”

Background


IPAR-Rwanda is an independent non-profit think-tank whose mandate is to carry out policy analysis and research to inform policy and decision-making and promote a culture of debate on policy issues in Rwanda. It seeks to strengthen the evidence base available to government, civil society, and development partners regarding the pressing social, economic, and political issues facing Rwanda. It has an engagement strategy which is designed to ensure that beneficiaries as well as stakeholders are engaged with its work. Its research is designed to support the Rwandan Government in achieving its 2020 Vision - economic growth and full employment, social protection for the vulnerable and improved governance. 

As part of its contribution to a culture of public debate and dialogue on policy issues and with financial support from African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), every year, IPAR-Rwanda organizes a conference that brings together researchers and policy makers to dialogue and disseminate research findings from its scholars and other research and academic institutions. IPAR thus is organising its 6th Annual Conference which will be held on 23rd March, 2017 and will attract researchers, professionals and decision makers working in higher education institutions, government, and development partners and for civil society organisations.

This year’s main theme is “Secure Biodiversity and Ensure Natural Resource Management toward Sustainable Development,” which will have four sub-themes:


•    Prospects of Biodiversity and Natural Resource Management for Sustainable Development
•    Role of the national capital accounting and data requirements
•    The nexus between economic development  and biodiversity conservation and natural resources management 
•    Policies for biodiversity and natural resources management

Purpose of the Conference

This international conference will provide an opportunity for national, regional and international researchers, academics, government officials, representatives of development partners and international and local NGOs with an interest in biodiversity conservation and natural resources management to discuss on issues related to secured biodiversity and ensured sustainable management of natural resources toward sustainable development. Speakers will involve experts, policy makers and researchers in the domain.
Expected Outcomes of the conference
The expected outcomes of the conference will be the report summarizing key findings, discussions and recommendations to be made for further research and policy implementation and a conference report. Furthermore, all the papers presented at the conference will be published on the IPAR-Rwanda web site.


Participants:  Participants to the conference include researchers and policy analysts, Academics, Policy Makers, Scientists, PhD students, Authors, Professionals and other who is interested to join this conference.

Registration:
Registration for the conference is now open, until Friday 10th March 2017. There is no fee to attend the conference but early registration is advised as numbers are limited. Call for papers:

Researchers are invited to submit abstracts for papers and poster presentations for the conference. The abstracts for all accepted papers will be provided in the Abstract Booklet and selected papers will be placed on the IPAR-Rwanda website following the conference.
Abstracts of not more than 500 words should be submitted on the form provided on IPAR-Rwanda website not later than 24th February 2017.
Peer-review process: A committee of experts will review the abstracts and the final papers for presentation and decide on the acceptance or rejection of the paper. The review process will focus on the relevance of the paper to the policy with respect to the conference theme(s) as above proposed.

Logistical Support

Rwandan Researchers, whose papers eventually get selected for presentation at the conference and do not live within daily traveling distance of Kigali will be provided with some financial support to cater for travel and accommodation. Applications for support should be made early to the Conference Organizer at IPAR-Rwanda.
